Atlantic Poultry Tour

Last week, I had the opportunity to sit down with Drew from Atlantic Poultry and tour their facility here in the Annapolis Valley.

It was a great opportunity to see firsthand just how much goes into our local chicken and egg supply chain and to talk about the importance of keeping our food local.

Atlantic Poultry is 100% Atlantic Canadian owned and operated, and their work touches many parts of the poultry industry. From supplying chicks and poultry feed to farmers across Atlantic Canada to grading locally produced eggs, there is a lot happening behind the scenes before food ever reaches our grocery stores and kitchen tables.

Touring the facility gave me a much better look at the people, processes and infrastructure that help keep that system moving.

Drew and I also had a great conversation about job availability and the importance of creating and maintaining good employment opportunities here at home. Agriculture isn't just about the food we produce. It supports local jobs, local businesses, farm families and communities throughout the Valley.

Thank you to Drew and the Atlantic Poultry team for taking the time to show me around and for a really informative conversation.

There is something special about being able to see where our food comes from and meet the people who help make it possible. Supporting local food means supporting local farmers, local workers and a stronger food supply here at home.
