Yesterday I had the opportunity to attend part of the 8th Annual Volunteer Leadership Symposium hosted by Volunteer Nova Scotia today, including a keynote from Hope Swinimer of Hope for Wildlife.
It was wonderful to see so many passionate and dedicated volunteers gathered together, all sharing a common commitment to supporting and strengthening communities across Nova Scotia. Events like this are an important reminder that volunteers truly are at the heart of our communities, and that their impact is felt every single day.
Hope Swinimer’s keynote highlighted both the rewards and the challenges of wildlife rehabilitation in our province. She spoke about the increasing pressures facing Hope for Wildlife, and the learning over the many years they have been operating. Her remarks reinforced just how much volunteerism and community support matter, especially for organizations providing essential services with limited resources.
A key takeaway during the discussions focused on the many different motivations behind volunteering. Whether someone is mission-driven, looking for connection, hoping to learn new skills, or simply wanting to give back, every volunteer brings something valuable to the organizations and communities they support.
Thank you to Volunteer Nova Scotia for hosting such a meaningful event, and to all of the volunteers, organizers, and presenters who continue to make a difference across our province.
