“As September arrives, we turn the page to a new season of fresh beginnings. Students are heading back to classrooms, families are finding their fall routines, and our communities are coming alive with the sights and sounds of harvest and autumn traditions.
The start of school brings both excitement and new opportunities, and I want to wish all students, teachers, and families a wonderful year ahead. Education is the foundation of our future, and I am inspired by the energy and potential this season always brings.
Fall in Kings South is a season to celebrate — from apple picking in our orchards, to community festivals, to the beauty of the changing leaves. It’s a reminder of how fortunate we are to live in such a vibrant and supportive place.
As always, I remain here to listen, to work on your behalf, and to celebrate the milestones that matter most to you. Together, we’ll continue building strong communities, welcoming change, and embracing the opportunities ahead this fall.”
— Julie Vanexan, MLA for Kings South

Nova Scotia Guard
The Nova Scotia Guard is a provincial volunteer emergency response program launched by the Government of Nova Scotia. Established under legislation introduced in March 2024, it officially came into effect in September 2024 and is overseen by the newly formed Department of Emergency Management.
I had the privilege of volunteering onsite in Annapolis at the Long Lake Fire with the Nova Scotia Guard. I worked a few shifts, and I have to say—the operations and coordination of these efforts were truly astounding.
It was an honour to pitch in where I could, and I am so grateful for the dedicated volunteers and staff who continue to put themselves on the front lines of these fires. Great to work alongside Andre Aquino, Ron Low, and Victoria Marshall who were there with the Nova Scotia Guard as well.
The best way to support this work is by signing up for the Nova Scotia Guard, so resources can be deployed exactly where they’re needed most.
